Where is Martin Bain now? The former Sunderland CEO who starred in season one of Sunderland ‘Til I Die

Football fans around the globe lapped up the first two seasons of the gripping docuseries, which largely focussed on the Black Cats’ struggles, as they were relegated in 2017-18 for a second successive campaign and failed to achieve promotion the following year.
Season three will chart the team’s successful 2021-22 play-off push, when they secured a return to the Championship after four seasons in League One.
The season will have to go some way to match the drama and entertainment of the first two, and it was in season one when CEO Martin Bain was one of the prominent figures.
Bain joined Sunderland when they were a Premier League club in 2016 but oversaw successive relegations before leaving in 2018.
Although not present in season two, he indirectly provided one of the moments of the season, when new owner Stewart Donald revealed Sunderland had spent a six-figure sum on a cryotherapy chamber intended for player recovery during Bain’s time at the club, but that Bain himself was the only person to actually use it.
After leaving Sunderland, Bain returned to a football position in 2019, becoming CEO of the Indian Super League.
He spent four years in that role before it was confirmed last September that he was stepping down for personal reasons.
