EA Sports is bringing back their College Football franchise in 2024, called EA Sports College Football 25 so here’s everything you need to know about the return of this fan-favorite series.

EA Sports’ last iteration of its fan-favorite college football series was all the way back in 2014. The game, titled NCAA Football 14, marked the end of the franchise after multiple lawsuits were filed over athlete likeness, which resulted in a massive payout to players featured.

But, now almost 10 years later, we’re on the verge of finally getting another installment of the iconic sports franchise.

Release date

Electronic Arts confirmed in May 2024 that EA Sports College Football 25 will be released worldwide on July 19, 2024. Early access for those who purchase the special editions can play the game beginning on July 16.

Pre-orders for the game went live on May 16.

Cover

On May 10, the PlayStation Store revealed the Deluxe Edition cover of EA Sports College Football. Travis Hunter, Donovan Edwards, and Quinn Ewers are among the athletes featured on it.

Edwards, Hunter, and Ewers will be on both the Standard and Deluxe Edition covers for College Football 25.

Features & gameplay

As far as features and gameplay, we do know that the new game will make use of EA’s Frostbite engine, as that’s been confirmed by the publisher. EA Sports FC, Madden, UFC, and NHL all make use of the engine, so this makes sense. And much like Madden, EA FC, and NHL, this game will also have an Ultimate Team mode.

For fans of the original NCAA Football series, both Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler have confirmed that they will be returning to lend their voices to the game as commentators.

The duo will be joined in the booth by newcomers to the series, ESPN commentators Kevin Connors and Jesse Palmer, along with commentator David Pollack.

The new game will feature player opt-ins, and over 10,000 players from across the landscape have chosen to be in the game. And, virtually all the schools that were in NCAA Football 14, with some exceptions, will return for 25.

Additionally, Road to Glory and Dynasty will return for College Football 25. The modes will allow players to either be a college football student-athlete or run their own program and lead it to success.

EA also confirmed that the new game will come with a Team Builder for Play Now and Dynasty, crossplay, a Road to the College Football Playoff mode, a Wear & Tear damage and fatigue system, and the ability to rattle opponents with Homefield Advantage.

On May 31, EA elaborated on some of these features via a Gameplay Deep Dive.

EA Sports College Football 25 will feature 80 different types of player abilities, ranging from physical to mental. There’s no guarantee these abilities will go off at any time.

Wear and Tear affects attributes, as injuries to limbs can have a negative effect on how a player performs. For example, an arm injury will limit QB power and accuracy. Injury effects can carry over from week to week in both RTG and Dynasty and sitting out plays when fatigued or injured will help alleviate the damage to a certain extent.

Options will be a key component of the game and adjustments to pitch strength have been made. A quick tap of LB/L1 will execute a quick pitch, while holding down LB/L1 will cue up a strong pitch. Holding down RT/RT a few yards away from the line of scrimmage will branch the QB into ball carrier movements.

Additional, AI logic has been added for Read and Pitch Keys, including new Read Key animations.
