Silent Hill 2 remake dev Bloober Team has said they had little input into the game’s recent trailer and went as far as to say it didn’t reflect the tone of the game.

At Sony’s recent PlayStation State of Play, Silent Hill 2 Remake finally reemerged with a short trailer. While many were excited to see the game again, there have been complaints about the focus and tone that was set.

At the forefront of the trailer is a focus on combat, which is strange for the game. Silent Hill 2, while having melee and gunplay, is often more thought of by its atmosphere, story, and haunting themes. The combat is generally pretty ugly but that’s by design. That’s why it’s jarring to have an action-packed combat trailer for the remake being the public’s reintroduction to the game.

Well, it seems that Bloober Team agrees. In a recent interview, the developer’s CEO Piotr Babieno talked about his reaction to the trailer for the game, seemingly showing some frustration with the framing.

The trailer doesn’t reflect the spirit of the game

In an interview with inwestorzy.tv, transcribed by Eurogamer Poland (via VGC) Babieno shared frustrations around the trailer.

He joked: “I wrote those negative comments myself.”

He went on to add: “In all seriousness, we are not responsible for the marketing side. That is the responsibility of our partner [Konami]. Certainly, this trailer does not reflect the spirit of the game.”

“We think that when players see the real gameplay, the real game, they will judge it differently.”

It seems the original video has been pulled, but still, it’s a fascinating take from the president of a company in business with Konami. While it doesn’t seem to be in particular malice, it’s rare to see someone point a finger like this pre-release.

We also brought up our concerns recently, and how the combat focus, and also, a more attractive model for James Sunderland do suggest the game’s tone is a little off. However, maybe this is all marketing that isn’t representative. It would be great to be proven wrong, as an excellent Silent Hill 2 Remake is what all fans want.
