Overwatch 2 Season 2: Release Date

As revealed in the first Overwatch 2 content roadmap, we know for certain Season 2 goes live on Tuesday, December 6. Obviously coinciding with the end of Season 1, all original content will immediately phase out as the update is deployed.

Each season is expected to last nine weeks in total, meaning players can expect Season 2 to wind down on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

What’s coming in Overwatch 2 Season 2?

New Tank hero Ramattra

Headlining the Season 2 update is Ramattra, the next Tank hero in Overwatch 2. First revealed at the OWL Grand Finals, this Omnic may be familiar to experienced players. Ramattra actually appeared back in the 2019 Storm Rising event as a mysterious villain.

Dropping into battle with two different modes, this character can swap between standard Omnic form and the more aggressive Nemesis form. In the first, Ramattra fills a more defensive role, protecting his team while dealing poke damage from afar. Though the second mode transforms him into a much larger force as he charges into battle.

As was the case with Kiriko in Season 1, Ramattra won’t be immediately available to all players. You’ll have to unlock this Tank hero in the Season 2 Battle Pass all the way at Tier 55. You can, however, opt for the premium Battle Pass bundle which provides instant access for a fee.

New Escort map: Shambali Monastery

Although details were vague at first, we now know for certain a new Escort map is joining the rotation in Season 2. Shambali Monastery comes into the mix with the next update, taking players through the previous Omnic home of both Zenyatta and Ramattra.

New balance pass

As always with major updates, another huge balance pass is confirmed for the launch of Season 2. This time around, Sojourn is in line for considerable nerfs after her Season 1 dominance, while Doomfist is set to receive “significant” changes after falling short of expectations.

On top of those two heroes, Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy, and Symmetra will all be tweaked to some degree when the patch arrives on December 6.

Next Mythic Skin: Zeus Junker Queen

We know for certain that each new Battle Pass comes with its own Mythic Skin. Following the arrival of Mythic Genji in Season 1, Junker Queen is set to receive her own Mythic Skin in Season 2.

The Zeus Junker Queen cosmetic at the very end of the Season 2 Battle Pass comes with multiple customization options, a new weapon model, unique voicelines, special effects, and more.

Reward system changes

While a long-term plan is in place, with a vast majority of changes coming in Season 3 and beyond, we know Blizzard intends to start overhauling the reward system in Season 2. The first change announced for the second cycle is to ensure “each event now has a skin you can earn.”

This means everyone will be able to unlock at least one reward just by playing during an in-game event. Throughout Season 2, we can expect Winter Wonderland to kickstart this new trend.

Overwatch 2 Season 2 Battle Pass

The Season 2 Battle Pass is set to include the usual assortment of cosmetic items, along with some extra rewards at the tail end for those who grind their way through. This time around, the theme is Greek Mythology as new skins all center around “gods and legends.”

From the aforementioned Mythic Skin to Ramattra in Tier 55, there’s plenty to unlock. We’ll be sure to update you here with further Battle Pass details as they emerge.
