Fans looking forward to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 may get just what they’re after since a casting reveal points towards an ill-fated character, and they’re loving how morbid it could be.

Sonic the Hedgehog may have a conflicted past regarding his games. Still, his two live-action movies have been positively received, with the second being called one of the best videogame adaptations ever made.

With another film, a Knuckles series, and a remake of Sonic Generations on its way, things are looking up for the blue blur.

Any Sonic fans know who you mean when you talk about Shadow the Hedgehog and Maria. A surprisingly dark scene drives Shadow’s seemingly evil motivations until he realizes the error of his ways and joins the forces of good. With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on the horizon, fans are excited for a deadly turn of events.

Sonic fans can’t wait for deadly scene

As the release date approaches for the third Sonic the Hedgehog film, we gain more information about the movie, including the new logo as well as the old and new faces we’ll see take on key roles. Though Alyla Browne’s potential reveal as the character Maria has been met with morbid excitement.

For context, Shadow the Hedgehog was created on a space colony orbiting Earth called the Ark. Shadow made friends with a young girl named Maria as they bond over life on Earth. In a raid ordered by G.U.N forces to seize Shadow and eliminate anyone who knows about the project, Maria is shot and killed while helping Shadow escape the Ark and send him to the planet below alone.

Of course, fans of adaptations love accuracy, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has hinted heavily that it’ll follow the plotline of what’s considered the best game in the franchise, Sonic Adventure 2. This scene is, unfortunately, essential for Shadow’s character motivation. So they’re most likely going to kill Maira, and fans couldn’t be happier.

Naturally, with previous Sonic movies being rated PG with mild language and violent scenes, Paramount shouldn’t be able to include a scene as gruesome as Maria dying by firing squad, could they? According to a Slovakian film rating website, Sonic 3 will be rated PG-12, which is PG-13 in North America. So, the infamous scene seems more likely than not.

We’ll have to wait and see to determine Maria’s fate, but fair warning to those who see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when it releases on December 20, 2024 – a particular macabre scene may be met with cheers on the scale the likes we only saw in fans reacting to Avengers: Endgame.
