An early 2000s commercial from Chile for Star Wars has resurfaced online thanks to its comical use of incorporating their most popular beer brand into the movie – leading to a few comical memes.

As of late, Chile has been in the spotlight for good reason. Pedro Pascal has become the South American country’s shining jewel now set to star in The Fantastic Four and continuing to star in The Last of Us. Chile has also made history by being nominated at the 96th Oscars for the movie El Conde.

Headlines also hit social media over the news of a Chilean car wash owner being hassled by Lucas Films. His business was called “Star Wash” and used the franchise’s well-known characters. Now Chile is in the spotlight again for Star Wars and its unique editing for its popular beer brand.

Old commercials resurfaced of Chile editing in their Cerveza Cristal beer into the Star Wars movie itself. Fans have taken a liking to it and making their own memes.

Cerveza Cristal is the drink of choice in Star Wars

The original Star Wars trilogy aired on Channel 13 in Chile in the early 2000s. To cut down on advert time, the production team edited the popular Cristal beer into the movie. Fans could see Obi-wan enjoying a refreshing alcoholic beverage. To be fair, the edits were incredibly convincing.

In the original commercial shared on X/Twitter, Obi-wan and Luke are having a normal conversation when Obi-wan tells the young Jedi that he has something for him. He says, “Your father wanted you to have this,” and reveals a cooler full of Cerveza Cristal followed by its theme song.

One person on X/Twitter commented, “This is insane.” According to the original poster of the commercial, many refused to believe it was real and fabricated for likes. But they are real, so much so that a grievance report was filed with the Chilean Council for Self-Regulation and Advertising Ethics at the time. Lucas Films won the legal battle in their favor and no more commercials were aired.

The resurfacing of the commercial has led many fans to try their hand at editing the Chilean beer into other popular movies.

One X/Twitter user took it upon himself to edit the beer into Citizen Kane and Pulp Fiction. With another creating an entire meme.

More meme edits include the iconic, “What’s in the box!?” scene from Se7en. And the famous scene in Gladiator, “Are you not entertained!”

Another took the reigns and instead of beer added an old menstrual pad commercial to the skydiving scene in Point Break. Dune has also gotten the special treatment with a shot of Paul in the sequel was memed to make it seem like he’s screaming, “Cerveza Cristal!”

A person on X/Twitter also took it upon themselves to turn the Gom Jibar scene into a beer commercial. Paul removes his hand from the box of pain to reveal a can of beer.
