The cast of Young Sheldon is having a ball while filming Season 7, but some fans think it’s all got a bit too “millennial.”

In real-time on Young Sheldon Season 7, it’s 1994. Sheldon is getting lost across Germany without telling Mary, Missy is lying about her new boyfriend to George, and Meemaw is doing everything in her power to keep her gambling operation alive and well.

It’s also the year fans know George Cooper Sr. is expected to die, with adult Sheldon revealing he was 14 when it happened back in The Big Bang Theory.

However, for some, the cast of Young Sheldon’s extracurriculars are a little too “millennial” for Season 7 – and they’re leaving fans divided.

Fans slam Young Sheldon Season 7 for being too “millennial”

While filming Young Sheldon Season 7, the cast has kept themselves busy filming plenty of TikToks for CBS – though some fans are claiming the tactic is too “millennial” for the main story.

Most recently, the clips have taken the form of the ‘I’m passing the phone to’ trends, with fan comments quickly weighing in on why the video feels so out of place.

“Young Sheldon is too millennial” one TikTok comment reads, while another fan on X/Twitter agreed, “[The] Young Sheldon TikToks are so millennial coded.”

For many, this change is not noticeable in the physical appearance of Iain Armitage, who plays Sheldon. The actor is now 15 years old, having originally taken on the role aged 9.

“Bro, Sheldon’s deep voice is something else,” one TikTok comment read. Another chimed in, “Young Sheldon’s not young anymore, he’s growing and growing and growing. I miss his cute little voice.”

“Sheldon jumpscared me,” a third pointed out, with a fourth fan concluding, “Damn Sheldon sounded stereotypical.”

Unsurprisingly, the changes in age during Young Sheldon have meant many fans have butted heads over opinion – even before Season 7 began airing.

“I am just now beginning to watch Young Sheldon the entire way through, and a recurring theme that I’m seeing throughout the show (and the audience) is how many people lose sight of the fact that Sheldon is just a little boy,” one Redditor points out. “His intelligence betrays him in this regard, but I do like the aspect of the show where Mary and Connie see Sheldon as a little boy and remind others of this fact when they forget. (Yes, an argument can be made that Mary babies Sheldon too much, but she’s his mother and that’s just what a lot of mothers do.)”

Young Sheldon Season 7 continues until May 16, 2024.
