WoW players blast new Achievement for costing 70,000 gold

World of Warcraft’s annual Love is in the Air event returned on February 5 and will last through February 19. Notably, the event incorporates additional cosmetics, mounts, and pets into the experience.
Players can also look forward to a few more Achievements to unlock, one being ‘Support Your Local Artisans.’ The challenge itself seems straightforward enough, offering 10 Achievement points to users who “Donate a total of 70,000 gold to the Artisan’s Consortium in support of the Gala of Gifts.”
Some WoW players have taken umbrage with the asking price, especially since the reward seems so paltry.

A Redditor recently shared a meme bashing the ‘Support Your Local Artisans’ Achievement in World of Warcraft. “Paying 70,000g for 10 achievement points? Dreamin’,” the player wrote in their caption, sparking myriad responses from the subreddit.
Some WoW users can’t get past the idea of essentially paying for something that should be earned through regular play.
(It’s worth noting that, according to WoWHead, donating just 10,000 gold results in users receiving a Bundle of Love Tokens in the mail.)
One person responded to the thread with the following comment, “Got like 7m but won’t spend a copper on [an] achievement… it’s earned not bought.”
Interestingly, someone else argued that things like this are “good” as they should help “break the urge to complete everything.”
Meanwhile, another World of Warcraft player lamented that “We could pay 1,000 (on top of being exalted) for a title back in BC and now we’re here. 70,000 for 10 achievement points. At least you get a mount saddle for 50,000 from some events.”
But some think there’s a practical reason for the presumed madness – inflation management. One user explained, “Usually prices like that are to deal with inflation.”
Whatever the reasoning, the “Support Your Local Artisans Achievement won’t remain doable for long.” As noted above, the Love is in the Air event concludes on February 19.
