Baldur’s Gate 3 players are finally turning on Withers

Baldur's Gate 3 New Epilogue Patch 5

Withers is a vital part of Baldur’s Gate 3, granting you the ability to recruit hirelings and resurrect your companions, but players are growing tired of his attitude.

It was only a matter of time, really. Withers is such an important part of the game, both in terms of mechanics and the story, but his holier-than-thou attitude and frustrating lack of explanations make him a tough guy to hang around with.

He’s mean to Arabella when her parents just died, he pushes you into fighting the Dead Three’s chosen, and he spends way too much time hanging around camp refusing to answer questions.

Sure, he can revive Shadowheart after she dies to another five consecutive attempts at the Gauntlet of Shar, but is that really worth the annoyance of keeping him around?

Baldur’s Gate 3 players brand Withers as “manipulative”

Several players have clued into just how frustrating Withers actually is, with one fan saying that they were “tired of this manipulative a**hole.”

“First off, he turns up at your camp uninvited with no plans to leave, telling you it’s fate even though he’s clearly been stalking you since the crypt.

“Then he enlists you and your party to fight innumerable horrors and three Gods’ Chosens, plus an Elder Brain on steroids without your knowledge or consent, and with little to no regard for your sanity or safety.

“He mocks you for not getting laid. He mocks you for getting laid. Not to mention his constant air of superiority like he thinks he’s smarter than everyone else.”

Players were particularly angry at the thought that Withers might recruit them for another world-changing event in the future, with one saying: “We are just a pawn in his cleanup operation to fix a mistake he made ages ago that caused trouble for like a whole trilogy”.
