Square Enix has released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Valentine’s Day cards, splitting fans over which one they think is best and which character they want to romance the most.

Final Fantasy VII was by no means the originator of shipping wars, but it was certainly one of the most popular examples among gamers in the late ’90s, especially thanks to the love triangle between Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa.

The debate over who is the best prospective romantic partner in the Final Fantasy VII universe has been rekindled, thanks to the new interpretations of the characters present in Final Fantasy VII Remake and the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

As Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is launching in the same month as Valentine’s Day and is set to feature the famous Gold Saucer date scene, Square Enix has released Valentine’s Day cards depicting characters from the game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Valentine’s Day cards are causing divisions

A user on the FFVIIRemake Reddit has shared the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Valentine’s Day cards, causing fans to quickly declare their love for each character, deciding which is the best of the bunch.

“Vincent is the true Valentine, no contest,” one fan chose, while another agreed, “There’s only one Valentine in this list, so it’s obviously Vincent.” It helped that Vincent’s surname is actually Valentine, giving him a huge leg up in the contest.

While he may be a mass murderer with the goal of destroying the planet, that doesn’t stop Sephiroth supporters. “That ‘Defy destiny’ line was one of several lines Sephiroth had in this game where I was like, ok, Square Enix definitely knows EXACTLY what they’re doing.”

“Let us defy destiny together – I like that, it’s motivational. I feel that with Sephiroth, I’m going to be going places and do crazy stuff,” another Sephiroth lover said, while another agreed, “Sephiroth wins this round lol it’s perfect.”

Cloud had a lot of supporters, even though you’ll be able to ditch him in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as did the ladies of the game. “I’m picking Cloud or Tifa lol,” one fan wrote, while another said, “I’m a simp so definitely Tifa.”

The fact that Final Fantasy VII Remake created a new timeline means that the canon relationships from the original game no longer matter. This has caused all new shipping wars to spring up, allowing fans disappointed in the ’90s to finally hope for their ship to set sail.
