League of Legends developers are finally looking to buff Aurelion Sol after his 2023 rework left him in the dust.

Riot’s MOBA has one of the biggest selections of characters in gaming. With over 160 unique champions to choose from, it’s easily one of the biggest strengths of League of Legends.

Though with the sheer number of champions available, Riot has the tough job of making sure all of them are playable in some capacity. This is an incredibly difficult balancing act, that requires an entire team dedicated to game balance. The smallest change to the game’s items, a slight number shift, or even a rival champion buff can massively switch up how fair a character is.

This is made all the more difficult when larger changes like champion reworks or item changes enter the game. Lately, Stardust gathering Aurelion Sol exemplified just that, having a tough time finding balance after his rework, constantly under the threat of nerfs. Now the devs have finally decided to buff the dragon up a bit, with the new items in Season 14 under consideration.

Riot Yelough revealed that Aurelion Sol would be receiving buffs on the PBE. These buffs were skewed towards helping the dragon have more early-game presence, instead of being a Stardust farming bot until the late game.

The rework for Aurelion Sol saw the champion become an infinitely stacking character, who would slowly amass stacks of Stardust as the game progressed, hit the late game and you’ll be capable of dealing ridiculous levels of damage, truly realizing Aurelion Sol’s potential.

Riot is looking to shift this champion fantasy ever so slightly, rewarding Aurelion Sol for fighting more with his Q and roaming with his W, rather than AFK spamming E on minions.

His Q will have its Stardust gathering increased when dealing damage to champions, whilst his W is receiving a buff to cooldown, mana, and damage. Conversely, Riot is nerfing Aurelion Sol’s E, reducing the amount of Stardust gained from slaying enemies within it.

If all goes well, these changes will drop with Patch 14.3, slated to hit the live servers on February 7, 2024.
