AMD’s RX 7700 XT has been officially revealed. The new GPU will contend with Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti and will be released on September 6, 2023. We go over performance, price, and more.

When it comes to making some great GPUs, both Nvidia and AMD have been consistently doing a fantastic job. Competing with Nvidia’s RTX 40-series, the Radeon RX 7000 lineup of GPUs from AMD has only offered three GPUs. Either super-high end or super-low end.

Following the release of the RX 6000 series the company released three current-gen GPUs to do battle with Nvidia, the RX 7600, RX 7900 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. while the reception was initially frosty, aggressive price cuts have made AMD’s higher-end offering an attractive option.

But now, AMD has hit back with furor, with the RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT, which look to do battle with Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 respectively.

AMD RX 7700 XT release date

AMD has confirmed that the RX 7700 will be released on September 6, 2023. The GPU was previously rumore to launch in September 2023, which proved to be true as the company announced the GPU at Gamescom, alongside its sibling, the RX 7800 XT.

With an official release date in tow, and competitive pricing, you can expect the RX 7700 to handle 1440p gaming, without having to break the bank or reach for more precious VRAM, which Team Green seemingly cannot muster.

AMD RX 7700 XT price

The AMD RX 7700 will be priced at $449, as announced at its Gamescom 2023 keynote.

Previous leaks suggested a price point of $449, months before the GPU’s official announcement. This means that the card will be priced slightly higher than the RTX 4060 Ti, but will also outpace it in pure performance if AMD’s current benchmarks are to be believed.

Previous rumors hinted that the GPU has switched SKU naming several times, with pricing changing behind the scenes repeatedly. But, it seems that AMD has finally decided on a good value proposition for the new GPU.

AMD’s RX 7700 XT is expected to be based on the Navi 32 chip, on AMD’s RDNA 3 platform. The GPU is confirmed to launch with 12GB of VRAM, which is more than enough for running modern titles above 1080p. Previous rumors suggested this since they want to outshine Nvidia’s efforts, which were not universally well-received in the industry.

Moreover, The GPU will be able to make use of AI frame generation tech named FSR 3, similar to DLSS 3 from Nvidia. However, AMD’s ray tracing performance still seemingly lags behind Nvidia’s efforts, as we tested with the RX 7900 XT.

AMD RX 7700 XT performance benchmarks

AMD RX 7700 XT vs RTX 3060 Ti benchmarks

AMD has only released percentage performance differences when compared to the RTX 4060 Ti, withholding actual framerates, but ensuring that many titles will run at 60FPS. It should also be noted that some of these comparisons are often performed with Ray Tracing turned off, so they may not be quite apples-to-apples performance numbers.

Another leak from All The Watts hinted that the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 3DMark Time Spy score could be 15,568 points. Though this score is respectable based on the tentative price of the GPU, the RX 7800 XT is said to have clocked over 18,197 in similar tests.

These numbers put the RX 7700 somewhere between the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070. If all of the reports around the price, specifications, and benchmark scores of the RX 7700 are correct, we might have a promising mid-range GPU.
