PSVR2 New Features

Is it possible to use the PSVR2 on your PC? This question is at the forefront of the minds of many PSVR2 owners, but the answer is less than straightforward.

The original PlayStation VR was not the most advanced tethered VR system, but it was generally regarded as having a significant advantage in terms of comfort and ease of use. The PlayStation VR2 is a huge upgrade over the original, offering improvements on every feature, but keeping the same level of comfort and usability.

However, some users want the comfort advantages of the PSVR 2 whilst playing PC VR titles such as Half-Life Alyx, and may be wondering if it is possible to get the best of both worlds.

In February of 2024, Sony announced it was planning to introduce some form of PC compatibility for the PSVR 2. The official adaptor has now been announced and will be released in August 2024.

The official adapter is planned for release on August 7, 2024, priced at $59.99.

Limitations of using PSVR 2 on PC

Though being able to connect your PSVR 2 to a PC is a big step forward, it does come with some limitations.

Sony says that at present, users who use the PSVR 2 with a PC will not be able to use the following features:

  • High Dynamic Range (HDR)
  • Adaptive Triggers
  • Haptic Feedback (Except Rumble)

Other features such as the 2000 x 2040 per-eye resolution, finger-touch detection, and passthrough will all work as intended, however. More features may be added in software updates as the technology develops.
