Chris Rock is under fire after it was revealed that the comedian will be directing an English version of the Danish film, Another Round.

Comedian and actor Chris Rock is being slammed online after it was announced that he would be directing a remake of a popular Danish film, Another Round.

The original 2020 film stars James Bond and Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen and was received with overwhelming positive support from fans and critics, boasting an impressive 93% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Across social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) industry fans have been slamming the news that Chris Rock will be directing an English version of the movie.

Particularly given that the story focuses largely on a very specific Scandinavian experience and as such, it is largely tailored towards an authentic understanding.

One X user wrote, “I don’t even understand why and — more importantly — how he would do that, it’s a particularly Scandinavian film about a very Scandinavian mindset…Also, just wait for more than 4 years, it hasn’t been that long!”

Others added that, “It will probably be altered for the American audience especially since it’s a comedy” and “half the movie’s charm is its Scandi soul, not sure the remake will result in anything coherent.”

Similarly to the comments above, many are confused as to why they have picked Another Round to be remade given it is less than half a decade old.

“It’s been 4 years since it came out…what is the point of this? Who thinks this is gonna be good? So many questions and no answers.”

In 2022, Chris Rock found himself in the center of major controversy following an incident at the Academy Awards in which actor Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage after the comedian made a joke regarding the appearance of Will Smith’s wife, Jada.

Time will tell what the English adaptation of Another Round entails and how the film will look to adapt the original material for a new audience.
