Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie has lost The Bear star Ayo Edebiri, marking the second major actor to step away from the project.

The future of the MCU is very much up in the air at the moment. With actor Jonathan Majors officially fired from the role as the next big villain Kang, Marvel is seemingly reworking many of its future projects.

While Deadpool 3 is still set to hit theatres in 2024, the film is currently the only major release for the franchise on the calendar. Marking the first time the MCU has released just a single film in a year since it was first launched.

Now, however, the MCU has been hit with another setback, with The Bear star Ayo Edebiri stepping away from the upcoming Thunderbolts film.

Geraldine Viswanathan has now been cast in the film instead, replacing Edebiri in an undisclosed role after the Emmy-winning The Bear actor dropped out of the project due to scheduling.

This isn’t the only major casting news to break for Thunderbolts, Dexerto reporting at the end of 2023 how The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun will no longer be appearing in the film, a loss that many fans were upset to hear and shared their disappointment over online.

Time will tell how development for Thunderbolts moves forward now that they have had to recast another actor. After all, the movie has already been hit with major filming delays due to the recent Writer’s strike that took place in 2023.

Thunderbolts is slated to premiere in cinemas on July 25, 2025.

As mentioned above, Thunderbolts was originally supposed to be the final movie in Phase Five, before Fantastic Four kicked off Phase Six. Following the Phase Five and Six rejig, Thunderbolts will now arrive after that film and before the MCU’s Blade reboot.
