A still from Starship Troopers

Starship Troopers is one of the best, most underrated movies of the ’90s, and it boasts an amazing soundtrack – here’s a breakdown of all the songs.

Thanks to Helldivers 2, people across the world are (re)discovering Starship Troopers, Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 sci-fi cult classic.

The movie follows Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien), who graduates high school and signs up for federal service under the United Citizen Federation. While his girlfriend becomes a pilot, he joins the mobile infantry on the frontlines against vicious “bugs”, giant alien insects threatening all life on Earth.

If you’ve done your part, you’ll have already watched Starship Troopers – and if you want to add its soundtrack to your playlist, we’ve got you covered.

There have been several CD and vinyl releases of the movie’s soundtrack – if you head over to Discogs, you can figure out which one is best for you.

Starship Troopers was dismissed by critics in 1997, with many believing it actually endorsed and glorified the fascist ideologies it was satirizing. That couldn’t be further from the truth, with Verhoeven asking his writer, Ed Neumeier, to summarize the “right-wing book” upon which it’s based, because it was “so boring.”

Helldivers 2 has rightly drawn comparisons to the film and inspired many to check it out for the first time. “Starship Troopers is the best anti-fascist cautionary tale (disguised as a big dumb action film) propaganda parody ever made and I’m damn happy Helldivers has given it a whole new life,” one user wrote.

“Of course inspired by Helldivers 2, I watched Starship Troopers for the first time I thought this was going be stupid but it’s actually so good,” another tweeted.
