We get it… it’s not a headline we thought we’d write either. Yet, according to fan theories, many are convinced that Sheldon should have cancer.

It comes as no surprise that Young Sheldon is the TV show on everybody’s lips, with its seventh and final season due to air in mid-February.

With that in mind, fans have gone into overdrive concerning what might happen in final installments, including George Cooper Sr.’s death and a potential storyline of Mary cheating.

However, some fans are more concerned with what has already been done, convinced that Sheldon should have cancer by now after various science experiments.

According to Young Sheldon fans on Reddit, the titular character “should have cancer” by now, after undertaking a variety of scientific experiments that could have risked his life.

“Why doesn’t Sheldon have cancer?” one user posted alongside an image of the entire Cooper family – and experts in hazmat suits – coming into the garage to rescue him. “Like I’d imagine this should be enough exposure to get permanent damage right?”

“I thought this would be way worse from the title,” another user replied, with a third stating, “Although not great for him, the exposure wasn’t that prolonged. The people coming in to do the cleanup are likely around it much more.

“He also didn’t seem to suffer the consequences of the ‘wildly carcinogenic’ luminescent paint he had to mark the exits in his apartment in Pasadena.”

While Sheldon has been at the center of many a dangerous experiment, this particular example revolves around his alleged use of uranium in Season 2 Episode 13. Titled ‘A Nuclear Reactor and a Boy Called Lovey’, Sheldon gets in trouble with the FBI for both trying to buy the substance and for making a nuclear reactor.

As we know from episodes of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon remains in good health into his adulthood – though the scientific experiments were never too far away from him.

“He’s still pretty young (even at the end of TBBT). Low-level exposure to radiation tends to cause cancer in the long term. High-level exposure skips cancer altogether and just sends you straight into radiation sickness,” another Reddit user mused.

“I’ve been asking myself this since the pilot,” another confused fan explained, with a third summing up, “Those Geiger counters were definitely clicking! Sheldon seemed unaware that bragging about having ‘lots’ of radioactive material would bring the feds to his door. Wouldn’t he know that?”
