Blue Beetle is the next DC movie to drop in cinemas, and according to Zack Snyder, he’s “looking forward” to it.

The DCEU is currently in turmoil, with films being panned and axed all over the place. However, that hasn’t stopped the new Blue Beetle movie from being released. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s nearly here, and fans are getting hyped.

Though not just fans, but directors too. Zack Snyder recently took to twitter to share his anticipation for the upcoming film.

Fans are already reacting to his statement, with some agreeing, some disagreeing, and some calling him a “class act.”

Zack Snyder tweets in support of Blue Beetle

Previous DC director Zack Snyder recently took to Twitter to express his excitement for the upcoming superhero film.

In an arguably rare tweet, he stated how he was going to take his children to the movie, and highlighted the film’s themes of family and support within the Latinx community by using the hashtag “Representation Matters”.

In an era where many DC movies are flopping at the box office, the odds for Blue Beetle aren’t looking good. It’s currently projected to gross $12-17 million on its opening weekend, and it would need a major promotional campaign to improve upon this.

However, any marketing has been limited by the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes, as actors are no longer allowed to participate in press tours. The star of Blue Beetle, Xolo Maridueña, even took to social media to explain this:

It doesn’t help that Warner Bros. isn’t giving the movie much of a marketing push themselves. So ultimately, Snyder’s tweet means a lot. Snyder has always been a huge marketing asset for the DC brand, as he has amassed a large following of loyal fans.

Snyder’s strongest supporters have previously claimed to boycott any DC project made without him after the James Gunn DCU takeover – aka “Restore the SnyderVerse” – so his support of Blue Beetle is likely an attempt to dissuade his fans from avoiding the movie.

It should be said that Blue Beetle was one of the last productions made before James Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios and rebooted the cinematic universe.

Twitter responds to Snyder

Naturally, because of Zack Snyder’s large following, Twitter users immediately began to respond or quote tweet his statement.

Most were positive, such as one fan who stated, “Zack Snyder is such a class act towards the DC brand and has a lot of enthusiasm and genuine love for the characters and even showing WB immense support when they completely stabbed him in the back. Better man than me.”

Although they did admit that Snyder’s written support didn’t work, adding, “I have no interest in seeing Blue Beetle at all though.”

Suicide Squad director David Ayer echoed Snyder’s sentiments with a raised hands emoji, while other users pointed out that Snyder was marketing Blue Beetle better than DC was, and that it was “funny” how Snyder hadn’t shown this same support for The Flash.

The official synopsis for Blue Beetle is as thus: “Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab.

“When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.”
