The cutest anime show ever is returning this April

Godzilla Junior

If Godzilla Minus One hadn’t satisfied your appetite for kaiju action, their chibi counterpart is about to return for a cuteness overload.

Although the big-G is firmly rooted in sci-fi horror, cinema’s greatest monster has long had an adorable side, too. In 1967, we were introduced to Godzilla Junior in the aptly titled Son of Godzilla, an incredibly cute kaiju child who’s clumsy and struggles with fighting with big monsters, bless ’em.

Since then, we’ve had numerous films with a more comedic, almost wholesome vibe, but none as much as the anime show Chibi Godzilla Raids Again. A more recent incarnation of the king of the monsters, this focuses on another of their children, who aspires to be as strong and fearsome.

They’re surrounded by similarly fluffy counterparts of other kaiju, and they’re all about to return to your screens.

Chibi Godzilla Raids Again returns in April 2024

It’s been announced that another season of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again is about to arrive in short order, with the first episode coming April 3, 2024. This was revealed with an accompanying poster, referencing Godzilla Minus One, from the show’s official X account (formerly Twitter).

The first 13 episodes came out around this time last year. Each just a couple of minutes long, they feature Chibi Godzilla, Chibi Mothra, Chibi Rodan, and many more residents of Monster Island getting into various hijinks. It’s produced by Pie in the Sky and directed by Taketo Shinkai, both of which are returning for the second season.

Chibi Godzilla is a reasonably new creation, debuting in children’s book ‘Do Your Best, Chibi Godzilla’ in 2018 before getting their own spin-off. So far, they’ve remained on the small screen, but you never know, if they get popular enough, we might see an appearance elsewhere someday.

For now, we have the videos on YouTube, and I’m very glad of them. For more fine viewing options, check out our lists of the best anime movies and best anime like Solo Leveling.
