Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator, Gege Akutami, clarifies a significant misunderstanding in the manga about a certain cursed technique.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a complex story with its strange power system and the countless number of abilities. The manga is currently in its final stretch, featuring the fight against the villains. Since all the sorcerers are currently engaging in battle, the series is revealing more information about their techniques.

However, even a simple error can change the meanings of the scenes and techniques entirely, which is exactly what happened in Chapter 246. While it may not seem much, it can change the meaning of a technique entirely.

After Kashimo’s death, Higuruma and Yuji quickly jump onto the battle field and challenge the King of Curses. Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 246 features Kusakabe and the others joining the fight. Choso and Ino fight Sukuna while Kusabake prioritizes Higuruma’s safety. Gege Akutami steps forward to address the issue with a particular technique in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

When the sorcerers simultaneously attack Sukuna, he notices that everyone has improved significantly. Sukuna also notices Kusakabe’s Simple Domain and says, “And by weakening my cursed technique with a Simple Domain, they’ve reduced the damage they take, although not as much as Amplification would.”

Simple Domain is an anti-domain technique that creates a small barrier around the user to protect them from the effects of a Domain Expansion. In this chapter, Kusakabe counters Sukuna’s Dismantle with his Simple Domain. Dismantle is Sukuna’s signature technique, and he uses it to kill Higuruma. Kusakabe interferes and saves Higuruma, but it isn’t easy for him to take on such a powerful attack head-on

However, in Viz Mangaka Musings, Gege Akutami shares, “Simple domain isn’t neutralizing the curse itself, so ‘thinning it out’ might have been the wrong word choice.” Gege Akutami simply addresses the misunderstanding as the terms “weakening” and “neutralizing” are being interchanged.

Although Jujutsu Kaisen manga has several translation errors, this wasn’t the case this time. The narrative in this scene of the English version stays true to the raw version. It’s actually Domain Amplification which neutralizes the cursed techniques. This is why saying Kusakabe’s Simple Domain weakened Sukuna’s Dismantle can be a bit confusing at first.

However, there’s a reasonable explanation for it. Simple Domain is actually a very flexible technique. The user can customize it with different rules and binding vows. Regardless of the error, Gege Akutami addressed in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga; it’s true that Kusakabe withstood Sukuna’s Dismantle and protected Higuruma.
