One Piece fan branded “evil” after lying to friend about Ace

One Piece may feature some genuinely evil villains, but a fan has given them a run for their money after lying to a friend about Ace’s fate.

One Piece is a relatively innocent series compared to other anime when you look at how the series handles death. Characters definitively dying doesn’t occur very often in One Piece; series creator Eiichiro Oda has even gone on record saying that he doesn’t like killing characters off, so when it does happen, it’s extremely impactful.

The evil villains of One Piece might be spreading their dark influence on a particular fan after a comment reveals their scheme to shield a fellow watcher from spoilers, only for their efforts to result in the pain hitting harder when one of the most emotional moments in One Piece befalls them.

Fair spoilers: ahead for One Piece up to the Marineford arc!

“Evil” One Piece fan compared to Blackbeard after prank on friend

Reddit user u/boobywara asks an important question: who’s more evil, the embodiment of darkness and scheming that is Blackbeard, or a fan lying to a friend about Ace surviving all the way to the Wano arc, bypassing his infamous execution?

The second image reads: “I sent her [an] image of Ace in Wano flashback to make her think he’s gonna make it that far.” Continuing, “I also reinforced the thought of ‘nobody dies in One Piece’ to keep her guard down.” Fans have flocked to the comments saying this is the most despicable action they’ve ever seen, comparing them to the evil Celestial Dragons of One Piece.

On the other hand, some praise this person for using the flashback of Ace in Wano of him and Yamato talking to reaffirm that Ace survives and that they should disregard the inevitable spoilers their friend may face when browsing One Piece online. Whether this is the intent is undoubtedly in question because, as they’re watching Enies Lobby arc, they will find out the truth sooner than later.

Since its inception, One Piece has made death a rarity, with none of the villains from East Blue to Wano definitively losing their lives despite the beatdowns they receive; Pell in Arabasta comes to mind. This has left speculation around character reappearances rife in the community until otherwise confirmed in the story. Regardless, Ace’s death will be much more brutal for this fan.
