A Destiny 2 troll has been slammed with a $500k fine from Bungie, along with a restraining order and a permanent ban from future Bungie IPs.

Destiny 2 developers Bungie have long held a firm stance against cheating in their game. Whether that be enforcing safety measures such as anti-cheats or restrictions on 3rd party software, or filing lawsuits against cheaters and cheat developers who breach their terms of service.

Many of these lawsuits Bungie has been successful in, resulting in millions being paid out to the developers.

Now a new lawsuit case has been won by Bungie, this time against a troll who had threatened and harassed employees, as well as cheated in the game.

In a court document found by TorrentFreak, lawyers who represented the player came to an agreement with Bungie. The player, initials L.L., had used cheat software in Destiny 2 “countless times”, with each use constituting as an act of circumvention. Each act costs $2,000 USD, with the defendant engaging in at least 100 acts of circumvention, totaling in $200,000 USD.

Alongside this, Bungie was also entitled to statutory damages of $150,000 for each “infringed work” which resulted in a total of $300,000. Put together Bungie was entitled to $500,000 USD in damages.

To add insult to injury, the player L.L also had a restraining order placed on them, preventing them from being able to “Travel within 1000 feet of Bungie’s offices, or knowingly travel within 1000 feet of the known home address of any Bungie employee, except as is incidental to travel on public highways and roadways…”

L.L. will also no longer be allowed to participate in any Bungie-made game, which includes the new IP Marathon and any games after it.

This is not the first lawsuit Bungie has filed against this player, with the previous lawsuit being filed last year after L.L. threatened to “burn down” their offices.
