With fans still in shock over the news of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ impending divorce, the latest rumors are now suggesting Jonas is running a “smear campaign” against his estranged wife.

Earlier this week the internet was devastated to learn that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were getting a divorce. Papers obtained by PEOPLE cited “different lifestyles” as the reason for the couple’s separation, stating “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”

A source told TMZ “She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles.” The source also claimed the couple had been having issues for the past six months and that Jonas had been looking after their two young children “pretty much all of the time”.

However, Turner’s fans are not impressed and have theorized Jonas might be running a “smear campaign” against his former wife.

The main reason fans believe Jonas is looking to turn public opinion against Turner comes down to what news has been heard of the couple’s relationship troubles.

“Everything that has come out regarding the divorce is so one-sided,” one person on Twitter claimed, suggesting “his camp” was attempting to push a certain narrative.

Others are referring to a resurfaced clip of Turner from an interview she did in 2020 as evidence that this is the case. In the clip Turner calls herself an “introvert” and a “homebody”, saying “If I could stay at home all day I would… I leave my house like once a day anyway to walk my dogs and then that’s it.”

Fans claim this clip contradicts the allegations made painting Turner as a “party girl”, with one person writing “This smells like a misogynistic smear campaign.”

Another said, “I don’t even like Sophie but it’s pretty obvious he is trying to paint her in a negative light on purpose. And we know Joe is no angel.”

As of yet, Turner nor Jonas have released a statement regarding their separation. We’ll be sure to update you as the story progresses. In the meantime, check out all the latest entertainment news on our page here.
