TikToker baffles internet after homegrown watermelon is revealed to be squash

A TikToker excited to share with viewers her “first watermelon of the season” was left perplexed after finding out it was a squash instead.

According to Katie Zornes, “There’s NOTHING like homegrown watermelon from the garden.” However, what about homegrown squash?

Going by ‘tri_ing_to_live’ on TikTok, Katie took to the platform to share with viewers what she thought was her first watermelon of the season.

But what she found instead left Katie and viewers alike perplexed.

“I just wanted you to share this moment with me,” Katie said, cutting into the falsely identified watermelon. “Could be bad, could be good. I feel like it’s going to be good.”

Well, it was certainly something — just not watermelon. Seemingly left speechless, Katie stared at the inside of her produce before finally asking, “What am I looking at here?”

A taste test confirmed that what Katie had actually picked from her garden was a squash — only she didn’t remember planting it.

“Did I remember planting Connecticut field pumpkins? Not until I figured out that was a pumpkin,” Katie said. She also admitted she was sad she’d picked the squash before it had the chance to grow into “its full pumpkin nest.”

Viewers, however, enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions, with one person commenting, “I’m so happy you recorded this moment! [Laughing my ass off], made my day.” Another wrote, “The look on your face is so priceless! I’m sorry you cut the pumpkin but this was awesome.”

Luckily, one viewer even had a suggestion for how to make use of the unripe squash so that it didn’t go to waste; “Green pumpkin can be made into relish like a zucchini.”
