Final Fantasy XIV’s live-action series has been officially considered “dead” with scale and the global crisis being the major killing factors.

The world of Final Fantasy XIV is massive, expansive, and full of fantastical characters that players have come to adore over the years. From the rowdy and rough pirates of Limsa Lominsa to the gleaners of Old Sharlayan, the Warrior of Light and crew have met and interacted with people from all over Eorzea.

With such amazing storytelling in-built into the MMO, it only made sense that a live-action version of the game would be in order. A way in which individuals could experience the world of Eorzea, without having to go through the grind that is A Realm Reborn.

Unfortunately, it seems that the dream of the live-action has officially been considered “dead”, with production company Hivemind co-founder Dinesh Shamdasani explaining the reasons in a tweet.

FFXIV live-action TV series announced “dead” due to scale and global crisis

Shamdasani explained that the sheer scale of the show was proving to be a major risk when it came to production.

“The size and scale needed to do it right proved too much for anyone to want to risk. Amazon came closest,” the co-founder noted.

Writer Jake Thornton also pointed to the global crisis as a major reason behind the scrapping of production, as they had difficulties finding a studio to purchase the show after the pandemic landed.

“It was a real result of [the crisis], unfortunately. We took it out just as studios began to zip up their purse strings.”

This means we’ll never get to see an IRL Y’shtola, Thancred, or even the Leveilleur twins realized in-person form, which is unfortunate, to say the least. The show was set out to tell a completely original story, which was inspired by the events that occurred in the main game.
