Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players slam “cursed” Moogle redesign

With the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, fans are experiencing a reimagined version of the RPG classic.
The story, focused on Cloud Strife and his allies’ quest to find Sephiroth before he can destroy the world, is a much richer, deeper experience than ever before.
However, it’s not without its changes. Some of these are pretty significant, with the entire combat system being overhauled and some plot points being changed to accommodate an updated narrative.

One such element that was changed drastically was the Mog House. The original played a small part in Final Fantasy VII, but it got significantly overhauled for Rebirth.
The updated Moogle design isn’t sitting too well with fans, though. Many have pointed out the update feels wrong, calling the design “cursed.”
“I follow both Japanese and American ppl here, and I love how both cultures agree that Rebirth moogle looks cursed af” Twitch streamer Celina pointed out.
“FF7 Rebirth Moogle has been trending in Japan with users saying it looks super creepy!” Japanese video game account Genki_JPN shared. “Some users are comparing it to the FF16 Moogle and saying it’s like the one in the online profile picture vs the one in real life!”
Moogles, however, are a recurring Final Fantasy race that first appeared in Final Fantasy III and has appeared in nearly every game since. While their appearances often vary, this would be the first instance of a Moogle being redesigned for an existing game.
The overhaul is fairly significant, too. Boundary Break host Shesez shared to Twitter a breakdown of the changes, showing just how different it is.
“Every conceivable feature to the Mog House moogle was seemingly changed,” Shesez points out. “Eye shape, head shape, ear shape, foot shape, body shape, wing shape, arm length, fur hue, and wing color.”
In the original game, the Moogle House was a simple mini-game at the Golden Saucer. For Rebirth, it’s been retooled to be a full-fledged item store and series of mini-games.
While it’s one of the many prominent Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth mini-games, for better or for worse, fans should at least rest easy knowing it likely won’t be the last time we see Moogles. With the third installment of the Remake trilogy on the horizon and the inevitable Final Fantasy XVII, it won’t be long before fans get a brand-new Moogle to stress about.
