Ferguson doesn't fancy Spurs' title chances

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has said he doesn’t believe Tottenham will ever win the Premier League.

Tottenham are having a good season under Ange Postecoglou and were fifth at the time of writing, but are not viewed as contenders for the title this season, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal tipped to battle it out for the trophy.

Spurs last won the title in 1961 and have only recorded three top-three finishes in the Premier League, all of which came under Mauricio Pochettino in successive seasons between 2016 and 2018.

‘1961 was the last time they won it!’

Ferguson was asked if he sees Spurs ever winning the Premier League by Sky Sports Racing presenter Matt Chapman.

“No, no,” Ferguson responded before bursting into laughter. “1961 was the last time they won it and that’s a long time. The opposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League, even [Manchester] United…”

Chapman interjected to say: “I think Spurs are more likely to win it than United these days,” before Ferguson sternly interjected, simply saying: “No chance.”

Tottenham’s last trophy came in 2008, when they defeated Chelsea to win the League Cup, and they have only won three major trophies in all since 1982.

They are out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, leaving the Premier League as the only competition available for them to win this term.
