They say footballers aren’t that relatable any more but Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is bucking that trend with his love of chocolate.

The Brazilian baller played a key role in Newcastle’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday night as the Magpies became the first away team to win at Villa Park in 18 matches.

After the game, Guimaraes’ night got even better as he was given a sweet reward from a supporter in attendance. In exchange for his match-worn shirt, the 26-year-old received two boxes of Kinder chocolate.

Guimaraes was then snapped celebrating with his prize as he headed down the tunnel back to the dressing room.

Why the fan brought chocolate

The supporter knew chocolate would be the perfect was to snag a shirt of Guimaraes because his ‘weakness’ for the snack is well documented.

On the Prime Video documentary ‘We Are Newcastle United’ which aired in 2023, Guimaraes revealed his love for the sort of foods professional athletes tend to avoid and that he had to go on a diet.

“I’m on a diet, I don’t like to drink but I have a problem with sweet things,” he said on the show. “Chocolate is my weakness. It’s better I stop talking about chocolate.”

His partner Ana then revealed that his favourite chocolate treat is the Kinder Surprise, a chocolate egg which includes a yellow capsule and toy. The fan picked wisely when bringing his negotiation leverage.
