CLG Fortnite pro ‘Marksman’ makes case for why Green/Blue SMG is better than Gold P90

Counter Logic Gaming Fortnite pro player Nick ‘Marksman’ Overton has provided an in-depth look at why he always takes SMGs over P90s when playing Fortnite.

Choosing the right weapon loadout is paramount to success in Fortnite, and players frequently turn to the pros in order to find out what weapons work best.

Marksman is one such pro who has gotten many questions about why he chooses to run a green or blue SMG over the more popular purple and gold P90, to which he says the answer is a simple one.

“The reason is simple, the Green/Blue SMGs apply more pressure than a P90 can and will typically result in quicker fights/kills, so you don’t get 3rd partied,” Marksman said in a Reddit post on Tuesday.

Marksman doesn’t simply stop there, however, as he then proceeds to give a statistical breakdown on how the SMGs outperform P90s in three key stats.

• Green/Blue SMG DPS: 216/228 
• Gold P90 DPS: 210

Reload Time

• Green/Blue SMG Reload Time: 2.3s/2.2s
• Gold P90 Reload Time: 3s

Fire Rate

• Green/Blue SMG Fire Rate: 12
• Gold P90 Fire Rate: 10

Before wrapping up his breakdown, Marksman further explains that the fire rate of the SMGs make it so that it’s more difficult for an opponent to combat the weapon with turbo building and also narrows the window in which an opponent can get off a mini-shield. Meanwhile, the reload time of the Gold P90 gives the enemy a larger window to use the item or build enough cover to gain an advantage.

The breakdown even made its way to popular Fortnite streamer Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins, who saw it on Twitter and pondered the information he’d just read.

With Marksman’s post sitting on the front page of the Competitive Fortnite subreddit, you can expect players to start trying out the weapons themselves very soon.
