The League of Legends community has slammed Riot after they revealed plans to release another Mythic Variant skin which received massive backlash previously.

Skins have been a huge point of contention for League of Legends recently. The player base has been feeling particularly salty at developers Riot for releasing skins at prices not worth the quality. This has come in the form of a recent ultimate Soul Fighter Samira skin and a new Mythic Variant Dark Erasure Jhin.

Mythic Variants are the newest form of high-end cosmetic to be released for League of Legends. Like Mythic Chromas, they offer a variation on the skin, however, they offer more in the way of visual effects and model changes. While sounding great in theory, players have taken issue with the price and gacha form of obtaining it.

Now a new Mythic Variant is on the horizon. Breakout True Damage Ekko is the second Mythic Variant to join League of Legends and promises new visuals, music, and a model to boot. Unfortunately, the method of obtaining this new version of True Damage Ekko has not changed, meaning players will need to go through the gacha system to obtain it.

LoL players furious at new Mythic Variant skin

League of Legends skin YouTuber SkinSpotlight has spoken vehemently against the new variants, even going so far as to call it a “Mythic Scam” in their video title.

Riot released a blog post to accompany the announcement of the skin, claiming that they’ve “put some more effort in setting Breakout True Damage Ekko apart from True Damage Ekko.” Despite this, players are still not happy the devs are releasing another one.

“We lost. Those damn whales actually bought them,” a Redditor cried.

“Idk who needs to hear this but stop getting scammed over chromas,” another complained.

It’s not yet certain if Riot is looking to continue Mythic Variants in the future, but with the community ticked off once again, they might need to rethink their strategy before coming to market.
