MK1’s newest patch severely nerfs Sub-Zero’s Ice Clone attack, but players are hoping it’s just a glitch.

Since its launch, Mortal Kombat 1 fans have had plenty to say about the latest version of Sub-Zero. Bi-Han’s been called everything – overpowered, underpowered, a bully.

While developers can’t do much about his torment of Smoke in a patch, balance changes have tried to rectify various gameplay issues affecting Sub-Zero.

The latest patch – Version 0.134 – went live on October 23 for consoles. Notably, it introduces a Halloween stage, the much-requested pin moves feature, and several gameplay changes. One specific Sub-Zero nerf has agitated fans of the character.

New MK1 patch nerfs Sub-Zero’s Ice Clone attack

The in-game patch notes for Version 0.134 merely acknowledge the addition of “general gameplay bug fixes.” They make no mention of the nerfs impacting characters such as Cyrax and Sub-Zero. Players have taken notice, though.

Reddit user internetkeks called out a nerf that specifically affects Sub-Zero’s Ice Clone move, writing: “Sub Zero’s meter burn Ice Clone was changed. What is the point of this move now?”

A gameplay clip attached to the post shows the Ice Clone maneuver no longer freezes opponents, it now stops them in their tracks for but a moment.

The Redditor lamented, “It doesn’t freeze anymore and I can’t figure out how to combo off of it anymore. It puts me at a disadvantage and still costs 2 bars. WTF?”

Understandably, MK1 players are hoping this particular Sub-Zero nerf is little more than a glitch that developers will eventually fix. “Looks like they f***ed up. This doesn’t seem intentional,” one person replied in the thread. Someone else drew a similar conclusion and added, “Might be a bug.”

Others claimed to have heard the Ice Clone issue is a server-side problem that will be resolved. “I heard from an NRS employee that the move is currently not working correctly due to server issues while fixing the PC port of the game. This is not permanent,” reads one comment.

Hopefully, a fix will arrive sooner rather than later. As the original poster noted, a glitched Ice Clone attack will have an adverse effect on many players’ Sub-Zero combos.
