Taylor Swift accused of “disrespect” to Celine Dion during Grammys

Taylor Swift was slammed after her Album of the Year win at the 2024 Grammy Awards for allegedly “disrespecting” pop icon Celine Dion.

Taylor Swift had a big night at the Grammy Awards. The pop singer took home two golden gramophones, snagging Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for her 2022 acclaimed set, Midnights.

During her Pop Vocal acceptance speech, Swift announced her 11th studio album, titled The Tortured Poet’s Department. “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret,” she said.

But it was her Album of the Year speech that caught fire online. After walking up to the stage, Swift “disrespected” Celine Dion by barely acknowledging the icon, at least that’s what many Twitter/X users claimed.

Taylor Swift couldn’t catch a break during the 2024 Grammy Awards, during which many Twitter/X users blasted the singer for “disrespecting” Celine Dion. During Swift’s acceptance speech for Album of the Year, the pop star was caught in a frenzy of excitement and surprise.

According to many online, Swift’s failure to hug or address Dion was not a good look from an optics standpoint.

“Whatever b.s. excuse Taylor is gonna post on IG about her being ‘overwhelmed and shocked in the moment’ won’t make up for the disrespect,” wrote one user.

Celine really could've stayed home and rest herself cause the trip and hassle when she's ill and in pain, was not worth this.

Others chimed in, sharing their anger over the moment.

“Wow….acknowledge the damn presenter….it’s not only about you,” said a viewer.

“Taylor really thinks she’s better than everyone with that action alone. She lost respect by disrespecting Celine Dion,” added another.

Moments after Swift and Celine’s encounter, a photo arrived online of the two sharing an embrace backstage. But many were not convinced it was nothing more than a PR move.

“Taylor Swift and Celine Dion posing for a photo together is utterly meaningless when you consider the blatant disrespect Taylor showed towards Celine on stage, without so much as a hint of acknowledgment. It’s absolutely appalling behavior,” slammed a user.

“Ohhh I’m glad Mariah Carey presented to Miley Cyrus instead of Taylor Swift. The disrespect to Celine Dion is mind blowing,” echoed another.

Conversely, many defended Swift. “Are you all ignoring [the] fact that she gave Celine a standing ovation when she came on stage and was singing/dancing to her song?” wrote one fan, adding, “You’re all looking for any way possible to discredit her. It’s old and boring.”

Celine Dion’s surprise appearance and presentation for Album of the Year came 25 years after the singer took home the same honor. Her 1996 album Falling Into You beat out the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, The Fugees, and the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack.

Currently, the pop legend suffers from stiff-person syndrome. She revealed the diagnosis in 2022 and has largely stepped away from the spotlight.
