Several new features are slowly rolling out for Pokemon Go players around the world, and one new mechanic in particular is being lauded by fans as a fantastic new QoL adjustment.

Pokemon Go players love complaining about Pokemon Go almost as much as they like playing Pokemon Go, often filling Niantic’s mentions with complaints, requests, and unrealistic fantasies for the game in attempts to ‘fix’ it.

However, after seven years (and counting) Pokemon Go has plenty of quirks that could be ironed out, with some outdated mechanics still slowing gameplay down, and some odd game design choices still hampering progress and enjoyment for veteran and newcomer players alike.

One feature that still takes far too long, is the buddy system, which often demands players use the AR functions in Pokemon Go to give their buddy a berry. If you have a Slowpoke for a buddy or a similarly slow Pokemon, it can be painstakingly dull waiting for the ‘mon to shamble onto the screen.

That’s why fans are so excited about one new feature, as it seems Niantic has listened to feedback and is simplifying the process so players can focus on getting their buddy’s happiness on the rise, instead of just waving a phone around to wrangle with the AR.

New “Quick Treat” button in Pokemon Go skips AR entirely

As shared in a Reddit post by Pokemon Go player InvisibleSoul8, some players are reporting a new “Quick Treat” button when players select their buddy, which entirely sidesteps the AR feature, and simply lets players feed their buddy a berry within the main menu.

Fans are fairly pleased with the new feature in the comments, with one person describing it succintly, saying “When the button is used, it doesn’t enable the camera and there is no animation of the Pokemon walking. A nice QoL improvement.”

Other comments are curious about the improvement, with one asking, “Are you able to control what berry is used?” Before another user replies, saying “Yes, you can also do a poffin.”

Some players are happy to see the back of the previous mechanic, saying “I have always thought that opening gifts and feeding/playing/adding a screenshot to your camera role was always the WORST part of this game. Miserable ‘gameplay’. This is an improvement.”

Another Pokemon Go player simply comments, saying “THANK YOU” while another comment adds, “Niantic on their A game recently.”

It’s encouraging to see an uptick in new and improved features coming to Pokemon Go, and despite some recent issues, it bodes well for the title’s continued success throughout the year. Especially with huge events like the current Timeless Travels season.
