Pokemon Go players slam Timeless Travels “phishing tactic”

Niantic has taken the Pokemon Go Timeless Travels season extremely literally with a frustrating Global Challenge timer.

The Pokemon Go Timeless Travels season boasts tons of exciting features in the three months it’s active. From new Pokemon, Timed Research, Community Days, Global Challenges, and so much more – it’ll be hard not to have anything to do in Pokemon Go.

However, just because there’s a lot to do, doesn’t mean there’s no urgency around the tasks. After all, some will expire soon, meaning you’ll miss out on their rewards. In fact, one task seems to be taking Timeless Travels a little too literally, with fans not being too sure when it even expires.

Pokemon Go players baffled over annoying Timeless Travels timer

Sharing an image of a Global Challenge on Reddit, one Pokemon Go player asked “Why didn’t they just say 7 days?” In the image itself, it reveals that the community had 10337 minutes to complete the challenge, which is roughly just over seven days.

Naturally, fans were extremely confused at this convoluted way to say seven days, with many wondering why Niantic put it in minutes.

“Good question” commented one user, suggesting that it was “maybe an easier countdown clock? I was annoyed when I had to figure it out.” It would make sense that the minutes make an easier countdown clock closer to the end of the challenge, but this far on just feels tricky and overly complicated.

However, while some offered reasoning, others slammed Niantic for their choice, claiming the idea was a “common phishing tactic” made to install a “sense of urgency” to the players so they work harder to complete it.

Others highlighted another reason why Niantic may have implemented the interesting timeline: “My guess is to play off the Timeless Travels theme.”

Whether it’s to promote urgency or to fit in more with the Timeless Travels theme, it’s clear the Pokemon Go community is just confused and looking for an easier way to monitor their challenges.
