Pokemon players are coming up with their own weird evolution methods that could be used in future installments in the series.

The Pokemon series started out with three methods of evolution: Leveling up, using Evolution Stones, or trading. Since then, the series has introduced all manner of wacky evolution methods, ranging from leveling up while your console is held upside down to landing multiple crits in a single battle.

Fan reaction to the more complicated Pokemon evolutions has been mixed. Some love how it makes certain Pokemon lines feel unique, while others dislike the ones that are poorly explained by the game or require you to work with other people.

With Gen 10 being next in line, fans are already wondering about the new evolution methods that could be introduced in future entries in the franchise, many of which are just as creative as the ones made by Game Freak.

Pokemon fans are coming up with weird new evolution methods

A user on the Pokemon Reddit created a thread asking other fans what evolution methods they would like to see added in upcoming Pokemon games. It didn’t take long for the wackiest ideas to come out in full force.

“Releasing 29 others of its species. It evolves to impress you in hopes you don’t release it,” one user wrote, while another said, “You have to do a button code in the controller, like the Konami Code.”

“I’m surprised they didn’t add a photo-based evolution already,” one user wrote, “Many gens have had a camera feature but in Gen 9 we had Perrin’s Teal Mask quest, the Indigo Disk’s Meloetta capture, and all the photo-based BB Qs to show that they care about the camera as a function. I could see an artistic Pokémon such as Smeargle evolve in a photography-related method.”

One fantastic idea involved Double Battles. “Two different Pokemon that both only evolve if they are in a double battle as part of the same team at the same time together.” Fans speculated that this would be the perfect evolution for Plusle and Minun.

“Honestly, I’m kind of surprised they haven’t done some sort of fusion evolution given that we have seen Shellder and slowpoke as well as Mantyke and Remoraid dynamics before,” one user wrote, referring to the long-standing desire to see Pokemon fusion.

With Pokemon Day and Gen 10 fast approaching, fans are eager to learn the future plans for the Pokemon franchise. Hopefully, this will mean more weird Pokemon evolution methods, making players feel like actual Pokemon Masters as they unravel the mysteries surrounding them.
