Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trainers were let down after finding out special NPCs in the Indigo Disk wouldn’t accept certain Pokemon through trade.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC allowed trainers to invite their favorite NPCs over to the Blueberry Academy once the story was completed.

Once invited over, these NPCs can be battled once a day. Once fans have battled them three times, they will offer to trade Pokemon with the player character.

Unfortunately, some trainers were frustrated to learn that these special NPC trades wouldn’t allow for certain Pokemon to be given away.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet fans lament NPC trade restrictions

A post on the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet subreddit caught the community’s attention after one fan made a thread titled, “Just wanted to say thanks to my main man, Larry, but the game decided otherwise.”

The OP attached a screenshot that showed the Medali Gym Leader, Larry, in the Blueberry Academy League Club room, with a message that said, “You can’t trade Larry a Shiny Pokemon!”

Although they were let down by the revelation, the trainer said, “In my head he refused it on account of him liking normal stuff.”

As Larry has become a fan-favorite character in Gen 9, many fans joked that he wouldn’t have appreciated the flashy Pokemon anyway.

“Larry wouldn’t like a Shiny Pokemon,” said one trainer. “‘People, Pokémon… There’s no need to overcomplicate things.’ Buddy likes Normal Pokemon, after all.”

Others in the comments made jokes about how they were not able to trade away their flashy Pokemon to their favorite characters. “What do you MEAN I can’t trade Nemona a level 100 EV and IV trained Shiny Arceus? Nonsense.”

Unfortunately, these NPCs don’t use the Pokemon that are traded to them, meaning there’s no in-game incentive to trade a Pokemon of value. As such, Game Freak likely put in certain restrictions so trainers don’t accidentally lose rare Pokemon via trade.
