Ditto celebrates as the reason for a new duplication glitch

A new item duplication exploit has been discovered for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, thanks to the arrival of the Indigo Disk DLC.

Any game with an inventory system leaves itself open to item duplication glitches. These usually involve players taking advantage of specific patterns or interactions to effectively clone items they already have, without any extra work to earn them legitimately.

Pokemon games have a significant history when it comes to glitches of this kind, dating all the way back to the first generation. Scarlet and Violet have proved to be no exception, with the latest DLC breathing new life into the hunt for duplication exploits.

Now, a new method of duplicating items has been found, using specific methods made possible only by the DLC.

Ditto duplication exploit discovered in Scarlet and Violet DLC

Covering the glitch on YouTube, content creator Osirus detailed the methods required to replicate the duplication glitch before the developer presumably patches it at a later date.

The methods are a little complicated, but the first step is to ensure that there is a level 100 Ditto at the top of the five Pokemon selection. Additionally, it cannot have its hidden move and should instead have Limber.

In the second slot, Kyurem or Black Kyurem are the choices confirmed to be working, and they must have the Imprison ability only. A third Pokemon that knows the move Trick is also needed. Then, give the intended duplication item to the Kyurem to hold and head over to the Savannah Rest Area 2.

Players are then tasked with tracking down a Smeargle and luring it to a specific position near three clumps of grass directly behind the fly point. Then, start a battle and use transform to become the Smeargle.

Then, switch to the Kyurem, and the Smeargle should turn into the second Pokemon with the held item. After some time, the player can run from the battle, and the Smeargle should glitch out. The final part of the exploit is using the move Trick to steal the item repeatedly by running.

Though this is a considerably more complicated glitch than many we have seen in the past, it is worth doing before a hotfix rolls out.
