Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has been in the headlines over the past week over a possible career switch.

One of English football’s most decorated footballers, reports claimed Rooney was considering swapping the pitch for the boxing ring after being sacked as manager of Birmingham City earlier this year.

Rooney moved to dismiss reports he was in talks to have a fight under the Misfits Boxing promotional banner and he insists his priority is to return to football management in the near future.

However, another possible career change for Rooney has emerged as a possibility and it may well shock football fans.

Rooney targets law career?

A video has surfaced from a podcast where Rooney has admitted an interest in criminal law and the former England captain revealed he was considering studying for a law degree.

However, it was around the time he was offered the manager’s job at MLS side DC United so Rooney put any plans on the backburner.

The 38-year-old was asked about his law aspirations by former team-mates Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher, and he has revealed the role he tried to play in the infamous “Wagatha Christie” trial between his wife, Coleen, and the wife of former England team-mate Jamie Vardy, Rebekah.

“Sometimes you’ve got to have a bit of fun with the media,” Rooney told the Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast when asked if he is seriously considering a career in law.

“To be fair, it’s something that I’ve always watched and looked at as well. When Coleen [Rooney] had the court case with Rebekah Vardy, I was there with the barrister and the lawyers, and I was saying to the barrister, ‘you need to ask this question’.

“And then I did apply – it was to Nottingham University – I applied to go in and try and study, but then I did go away. I want to do it to get one of those wigs on!”
