Is there an Andor Season 2 release date?

Andor Season 2 doesn’t have a release date, but we know that delays have pushed the series back to 2025.

It was originally penciled in for August 2024, but that is no longer true.

The release window was initially confirmed as part of the show’s panel at Star Wars Celebration on April 7, 2023. Production was ongoing throughout 2023 but halted in May due to the writers strike, and further delays occurred through the actors strike in July.

In a statement, showrunner Tony Gilroy said: “I discontinued all writing and writing-related work on Andor before midnight, May 1. After being briefed on the Saturday showrunner meeting, I informed Chris Keyser at the WGA on Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing all non-writing producing functions.”

Everything is back on track after the strikes were resolved, but Andor Season 2 was not included in Disney’s slate of upcoming content for 2024 and has now been moved to 2025.

Andor Season 2 cast: Who could be in it?

We can expect almost all of the cast members from the first season to return for Andor Season 2, with Diego Luna leading the line as the titular hero, of course.

Mon Mothma in Andor, who will return for Season 2

The Andor cast could include:

  • Diego Luna as Cassian Andor
  • Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael
  • Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma
  • Denise Gough as Dedra Meero
  • Kyle Soller as Syril Karn
  • Alex Ferns as Sergeant Linus Mosk
  • Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen
  • Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha
  • Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz
  • Anton Lesser as Major Partagaz:
  • Dave Chapman as B2EMO
  • Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera
  • Doc Brown as Lieutenant Supervisor Blevin
  • Malcolm Sinclair as Colonel Wulff Yularen
  • Duncan Pow as Ruescott Melshi
  • Davo Sculdun: Richard Dillane
  • Lonni Jung: Robert Emms

There are a few characters that won’t return, given their deaths in Season 1: Fiona Shaw as Maarva Andor, Alex Lawther as Karis Nemik, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Arvel Skeen, and Gershwyn Eustache Jnr as Taramyn Barcona.

A question mark still hangs over Andy Serkis’ role as Kino Loy following the heartbreaking events of Episode 10, when it was revealed he couldn’t swim. He’s rumored to return after being spotted close to production on the second season.

Andor Season 2 plot

Andor Season 2 will have 12 episodes spanning four years, leading us to the point where Rogue One picks up the plot to sabotage the Death Star.

The series will start one year after the events of the first season. Unlike Season 1 which takes place during one pivotal year of Cassian’s life, showing how he met Luthen and joined the Rebellion, Season 2 will cover a much broader scope.

During Star Wars Celebration, Gilroy teased, “It took him [Cassian] a year and he climbed up out of a ditch and went through an incredible number of life experiences… he’s joined the rebellion—we’re never going back on that—and he’s a committed member now.

“We will now track him and the other characters over the next four years. When we come back it will be a year later,” he added, and confirmed the final scene will see Cassian heading to the Ring of Kafrene, where we first met him in Rogue One.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Gilroy said, “It’ll be very different. The next four years are not about becoming a revolutionary. They’re about learning to be a leader and how difficult it is to put the alliance together and what happens to people who are the original gangsters versus the establishment and a lot of different other issues.”

Gilroy has also teased “heavy” moments for Mon Mothma in the second season, particularly after Genevieve O’Reilly’s performance became a highlight of the show.

He told Radio Times, “She has to do all the things that everybody else does, but she has to do it under glass… there’s some really heavy things coming up. I think her path is very, very tough.”

Is there an Andor Season 2 trailer?

There isn’t a trailer for Andor Season 2 right now. It’s not coming out until 2025, so it’ll likely be a while before we see any footage.
