Christopher Nolan says this TV show is “unlike anything he’s seen”
Universal Pictures/A24He’s the man who gave us one of the best movies of 2023, but now Christopher Nolan’s attention is on an “incredible” TV show.
As the man behind movies such as Oppenheimer, Dunkirk, and Interstellar, it’s pretty clear that director Christopher Nolan has exquisite taste when it comes to what’s on screen.
In recent months, he’s been quoted as saying that the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League was “ahead of its time,” as well as praising the success of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie.
Now his attention has turned to a recent TV show, claiming that it is “unlike anything he’s seen on Television before.”
Christopher Nolan says The Curse is “unlike anything he’s seen”
According to a panel discussion broadcast on YouTube, director Christopher Nolan has stated that the A24 TV show The Curse is “unlike anything I’ve ever seen on television before.”
Created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, the black comedy follows “Whitney and Asher Siegel, who are a newlywed couple struggling to bring their vision for eco-conscious housing to the small community of Española, N.M. But their efforts are complicated by an alleged curse and an eccentrically flawed reality TV producer, Dougie, who sees opportunity in their story.
“As the series unfolds, the couple find themselves caught in a mysterious web of ethical and moral gray zones – all while trying to keep their relationship afloat and conceive a child.”
“I think the show is incredible,” Nolan said during the panel discussion for the series. “Congratulations on an incredible show that’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen on television before. There are so few shows that come along that genuinely have no precedence.
“You’re going back to things like Twin Peaks, or The Prisoner, or Dennis Potter’s Singing Detective and things like that, so you’re in an amazing space, and I can’t wait to catch up with the climax.”
Currently, The Curse has a 94% score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer – but only an audience score of 41%.
Sinead Stubbins at The Age added: “Fans of Fielder’s other work and perhaps recent squirming shows like Jury Duty will find a lot to like in The Curse. I’ll definitely keep watching – even though it feels like Fielder doesn’t want me to.”
Joyce Slaton at Common Sense Media further commented: “The title of this show is a fine metaphor for its unique and often cringey charms: Just who’s cursed and who’s cursing the troubled New Mexico town in which it’s set?”
