Young Sheldon fans can’t believe “spectacular” Big Bang Theory connection

It goes without saying that Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory are connected—but one “spectacular” link had passed many fans by, until now.

Even if their genius child doesn’t always think so, family means everything in Young Sheldon. By the time Sheldon reaches adulthood in The Big Bang Theory, his family ties are kept at arm’s length.

After his spirited fights with sister Missy and endless years of scratching his head at older brother Georgie, it makes sense that Sheldon naturally gravitated towards adult company at a young age.

With his parents—and Meemaw—taking a starring role in Sheldon’s life, one significant connection between his family in both shows has been deemed “spectacular” by fans.

It might have passed some Young Sheldon fans by, but Mary Cooper’s character has deeper ties to The Big Bang Theory than first thought.

In a new viral TikTok video, one user can’t believe the realization that Zoe Perry (who plays Mary in Young Sheldon) and Laurie Metcalf (Mary in The Big Bang Theory) are actually mother and daughter in real life.

“I just thought that was great casting… but that’s genetics.” Taylin Frame says in the clip. “I knew none of this. This is spectacular,” another user replied in the comments.

“I literally rolled over in bed screaming what????” a second commented, with a third user stating “I KNEW IT I was like there’s no way they look so similar.”

The differences between Mary in Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory have been called out by fans in the past, with many claiming to prefer the version seen in the prequel show.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zoe Perry explained “It’s easy to tap into what she’s done when events harken forward to things that have been established in the present on Big Bang. When I’m reading any script and working on it and what I’m doing sounds like her, I think it’s probably worth keeping.”

However, this isn’t the only famous connection that might have passed viewers by. Zoe Perry has also starred in the same hit drama that her father is well-known for, with Jeff Perry playing Thatcher Grey in Grey’s Anatomy.

“Jeff Perry and Zoe Perry were also in Scandal together! And Laurie Metcalf was also in an episode of Greys!” another TikTok user commented.
