Twitch mod orders clothes to streamer's address without permission

A Twitch streamer was left visibly uncomfortable after her mod made the “weird” decision to order clothes to her address without consent.

For streamers hoping to find their audience online and gain a following, moderators — also known as mods — are important for ensuring all chat behavior remains in line with content standards.

Most mods are typically unpaid for their work, volunteering their time and effort to streamers they enjoy and admire. However, this means that sometimes boundaries are crossed and parasocial relationships are formed.

This was certainly the case for Twitch streamer ‘Karii‘, who was left clearly uncomfortable after a “weird” mod ordered clothes for himself to her address… all without permission.

Streaming on Just Chatting, Karii received a package and was about to open it when her mod, Grublex, revealed in the chat that it was in fact for him.

“Wait what? ‘I bought an Oodie to Karii’s address…'” Karii read out loud the message. “Oh, so this is for you? Wait, Grublex, why would you do that? What the hell?”

Confused, she asked Grublex why he would use her address, to which he replied, “To save money so I can gift more subs.” He also informed the streamer that he did not mind if she opened the package, however, Karii was not impressed by his antics.

“Ok, that is weird. That is weird, don’t do that ever again. Please,” Karii warned. “That is some stalker-mode type of thing. Don’t do that please.”

The clip was shared to Reddit, with one person theorizing that Grublex “did it to have an excuse to be like ‘Yo, can I come by and get that package [in real life]’ 100%. Oldest trick in the book, leave a sweater at a girl’s house so you have an excuse to go back to her place and see her.”

Another said, “This mod is weird, Grublex can’t catch a hint and bug off continues to stay in [the] chat for a while and pretends it isn’t super weird to have done that and then plays the victim card. It’s difficult to watch.”

Others encouraged Karii to remove Grublex as one of her mods and have him banned for her own safety.
