One Piece Straw Hats shocked

One Piece fans are concerned: if the long-running anime and manga series comes to an end soon, what if its ending is as bad as Game of Thrones?

One Piece has entered its “final saga” with the Egghead Island arc, so we can expect the story of our favorite pirate crew, the Straw Hats, to ramp up as the series nears its conclusion. The question remains: will One Piece’s ending be good? It’s a worry that persists in all fan’s minds as the finale, almost 30 years in the making, may be heading our way.

Any fan of long-running media worries about how it’ll end; if it’ll be satisfying, average, or completely drop the ball with an awful ending. Game of Thrones is an infamous example of this as the series was generally praised throughout its run – but in its final season, especially the ending itself, it enraged fans. So naturally, fans are discussing what the “Game of Thrones ending” for One Piece would be.

Fans discuss the worst possible endings for One Piece

On the One Piece subreddit, u/a_ton_of444s asks: “How could [series creator Eiichiro] Oda destroy the ending?” Fellow fans rushed to the comment section, giving their theories on how disastrous the ending of One Piece could be if it’s Game of Thrones Season 8 levels of bad.

Some theories suggest the typical “it was a dream” ending, with comments like, “The entire story is just a lie told by Usopp to Kaya in her bed, then Kaya dies,” prompting humorous replies, saying Kaya passed away from hearing too good of a story.

Some came up with a bitter-sweet ending. “They find the One Piece, and the ending shot is everyone laughing without revealing what it is,” one wrote. Others came up with funny otherworldy responses, like: “Zoro turns out to be evil. The One Piece was the friends we made along the way. There being some kind of [M. Night Shyamalan]-esque plot twist.”

One fan, u/javierm885778, went as far as breaking down exactly how the ending of One Piece could go wrong, believing it’ll be difficult to have an ending as bad as Game of Thrones unless the author passes away.

However, Eiichiro Oda plans on ending One Piece, with the Egghead Island arc potentially coming to a close in the manga. At the same time, the arc has just kicked off in the anime. They need to know that the odds are heavily weighed against them for a satisfactory conclusion to one of the most popular and long-running series on the face of the Earth as we head further into the final saga because a bad ending will make rewatches extremely difficult.
