Baldur’s Gate 3 players have shown their respect for one of the most frustrating interactions in the game, which is so detailed that it’s impressive- in a very annoying way.

The NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 are some of the most complex and detailed we’ve ever seen. The care Larian Studios put into making even the most random side characters is impressive, and it’s a big part of why the world feels so immersive. And that’s before we even start on all the Speak with Dead interactions.

Not all NPCs are born equal though. A lot of people have their favorites, with characters like Alfira being so popular some players wanted her to be an Origin character. And then there’s the inverse; the characters that everyone loves to hate.

If you managed to make it all the way to Act 3, you’ll know by now that one of the worst in Naaber, the “would-be adventurer”.

Naaber is what happens when Larian use their writing skills for evil. His dialogue tree is one of the longest in the game, with each line more frustrating than the last. Add in some perfectly nauseous voice acting, and you’ve got a perfect storm of frustration.

Considering all this, it’s not surprising that quite a few players have tried to kill Naaber, to varying degrees of success. However, one player was surprised by how far Larian went to expand on his dialogue, because he has custom lines depending on how you try to kill him.

The player said: “The fact that Larian actually went out of their way to make this guy annoying as possible with dialogue specific to how you attempt to kill him made me love this game 1000x more.”

They also posted a clip with one of the lines, which meant Larian predicted that players would try and push the NPC off of the edge and into the water to try and drown him.
