Boxing star Ryan Garcia has confirmed his next fight after confusion reigned over his next move last week.

Garcia dismissed the notion his next fight will be against Jose Ramirez, despite promoter Oscar De La Hoya suggesting as much.

De La Hoya took to X last week to announce a fight between Garcia and the former unified super-lightweight world champion was ‘getting close and happening’.

Garcia is rebuilding at super-lightweight after a crushing loss for the WBA lightweight world title to Gervonta Davis last year and a fight with Ramirez, a former champion, was seen as a big test of his credentials at 140 pounds.

However, Garcia crushed talk of a fight with the former US Olympian and has now announced his next fight will be for the WBA super-lightweight world championship, against champion Rolly Romero.

Taking to X on Wednesday, ‘King Ry’ has said he will take on Romero for world honours on Saturday, April 20.

He tweeted: “4-20 Live on @daznboxing PPV Tickets and Location soon. It’s time To enter battle once again. I understand that there has been a lot of confusion but this fight is happening.

“I’m happy to announce this. Everyone is going to post this soon don’t worry. I love you guys. COMMENT WHAT YOU THINK. #GarciavsRomero

A fight between the pair has long been mooted and the hype was amplified after both men suffered their only professional loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Romero captured the vacant WBA world title last year with a controversial stoppage win over Ismael Barroso in Las Vegas.

Now Garcia will look to win his first world title, after long being touted as a future world champion, in what is arguably a bigger fight for him than the originally slated Ramirez bout.
