MW2 Ranked Play: Map Pool, Skill Divisions & Rewards

CDL operators in Modern Warfare 2 ranked mode are just one of the incoming rewards.

Ranked Play in MW2 builds on its predecessors offering one of the most in-depth competitive game modes in Call of Duty history.

MW2 Ranked Mode gives players a chance to compete in a more official capacity than regular multiplayer which is designed to be accessible more so than competitive.

The aim of Ranked Play is to organize similar skill players into divisions, allow them to compete against each other, and advance players that come out on top. Climbing the divisions to earn mode exclusive rewards and content.

It plays very differently from any other MW2 game mode, restricting numerous loadout options, including most weapons and killstreaks. This is done to ensure a more competitively balanced competition and minimize the randomness of each gunfight.

MW2: Ranked Skill Divisions

MW2 Ranked Play uses a divisional system similar to previous models, albeit this time with some extra ranks added.

Instead of placement matches, every player starts as a Bronze ranked player. Users move up by acquiring the minimum amount of Skill Rating required for each Skill Division. Upon reaching a new rank you cannot be demoted immediately as Demotion Protection offers a safety net.

Skill Rating Forgiveness is a new feature that prevents team members from losing any Skill Rating if a teammate disconnects or quits in the middle of the match. If a player disconnects or quits in the middle of the match, all team members outside of that player’s party will not lose SR.

A player’s highest Skill Division placement decides the rewards they earn and where they will start for the next season. At the start of a new season all players will be deranked down one tier below where they finished last season.

Here are the seven Skill Divisions and the required Skill Rating for each.

  • Bronze – 0-899 SR
  • Silver – 900-2,099 SR
  • Gold – 2,100-3,599 SR
  • Platinum – 3,600-5,399 SR
  • Diamond – 5,400-7,499 SR
  • Crimson – 7,500-9,999 SR
  • Iridescent – 10,000 SR+

Additionally, the Ranked leaderboards show the Top 250, meaning that the players with the highest Skill Rating in the game will have their names and ladder position shown off on the Ranked Play leaderboard.

Pro players have a unique marking on the leaderboard that shows what organisation they play for to make keeping track of the world’s best MW2 players easier.
