Cleaner sues law firm after being fired for eating leftover tuna sandwich

A cleaner is suing her former employer after being fired for eating a tuna sandwich that was left over from a meeting at a law firm.

Single mom Gabriela Rodriguez is taking legal action against a London-based law firm, Devonshires Solicitors, after she was fired for a reason that’s leaving netizens stunned.

Rodriguez, who immigrated to the UK from Ecuador, says she was let go from her job after eating a tuna sandwich that was left over from a meeting at the firm.

The tuna sandwich in question was purchased from Tesco, a British supermarket chain, for about $1.90. Although it was due to be thrown away after the meeting, Rodriguez decided not to let it go to waste — but her employer, Total Clean, says she “stole” the sandwich, taking “client property … without authority or reasonable excuse.”

Although Devonshires Solicitors was said to have complained about the incident to Total Clean, they denied any claims of bringing up the situation to the cleaning company.

“Devonshires did not make a formal complaint against Gabriela or ask for any action to be taken against her,” a spokesperson for the firm said in a statement. “Total Clean carried out their own investigation and the decision to dismiss Gabriela was taken without any input or influence from Devonshires whatsoever.

“This is a private matter between Total Clean and Gabriela, but we have made clear to Total Clean that we would not object, as we never have done, to Gabriela attending and working on our premises if Total Clean changes its position.”

Now, Gabriela and the United Voices of the World union are taking legal action against both Total Clean and Devonshires for her firing… but the firm refuses to support her case.

Protestors gathered around the outside of the law firm in support of Rodriguez, boasting signs reading “Sacked for a sandwich,” and “Justice for Gabriela.”

This is just the latest odd firing that’s gone viral on social media after an art director claimed she was sacked for being “too efficient” at her job.
