Phil Foden’s heroics for Manchester City vs Brentford saw a new record set for Premier League goals scored across a 10-game matchweek.

Foden’s hat-trick goal in West London was the 45th and final goal of the weekend, which is the highest amount since the Premier League became a 20-team league in 1995.

The highest-scoring game of the weekend was Newcastle’s 4-4 draw with Luton, while there were six goals at Stamford Bridge as Wolves beat Chelsea 4-2, and there were five goals each in Brighton vs Crystal Palace and Sheffield United vs Aston Villa.

Goals galore!

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Foden said of City’s 3-1 comeback win at Brentford: “We stayed calm, we’re a team that trusts our ability, there are going to be ups and downs in football. We were playing well even when we were 1-0 down, we had to remain patient. We controlled the game which is the main thing and created a lot of chances which was nice to see.”

On his personal form this season, he said: “I’m really delighted with my performances at the moment. I’m playing a lot of minutes now, more inside which is where I want to be. I’m delighted with how I’m playing. It’s probably the best form I’ve had in a City shirt for a long time and long may that continue. Keep working hard on the training pitch and try and get better.”
