Fortnite players flood Donald Mustard with messages as he leaves Epic Games
Epic GamesFortnite boss Donald Mustard is retiring from his role at Epic Games, so fans of the battle royale are bidding him farewell.
Donald Mustard joined Epic Games in 2008 after the publisher purchased the Chair Entertainment studio he co-founded. While Chair became best known for the acclaimed Shadow Complex and Infinity Blade titles, it eventually went silent. The studio released its last game, PC and mobile adventure Battle Breakers, in 2018.
But by that point, Mustard had eased into a new role, given that he was appointed Chief Creative Officer at Epic.
On this path, the industry veteran helped Epic turn Fortnite into a lucrative powerhouse, leading the game’s storytelling efforts and more. Mustard’s decided to hang up that particular hat, though.
Fortnite boss Donald Mustard announces his Epic exit
On September 8, Donald Mustard revealed he’ll soon depart Epic Games after serving as CCO for seven years. He shared the news on his personal Twitter page in a lengthy farewell message.
Mustard began his message with the following, “After an incredible adventure, I will be retiring from my role as Chief Creative Officer at Epic this month.”
On his Fortnite tenure, he wrote in part: “I am especially proud of the opportunity I’ve had to help create and shape Fortnite.”
Donald Mustard’s announcement offers no insight as to what lies ahead for him career-wise after he officially exits Epic Games. But it’s clear he has the full support of Fortnite fans, many of whom shared well wishes in the Twitter thread.
Content creator DomTheBomb wrote, “Changed the gaming landscape forever congrats on retiring.” Further down the thread, a post from another fan reads, “Thank you for everything you’ve done for this community, Donald. You will be deeply missed, see you back at the battle bus. Enjoy your time with family.”
Fortnite content creator Immature added to the chorus of goodbyes, as well. “LEGEND! Appreciate what you have done with Fortnite and excited to see what the next chapter brings!”
Mustard’s announcement comes just two weeks after Fortnite entered Chapter 4 Season 4.
