Assassin’s Creed Shadows full reveal

On May 13, Ubisoft unveiled Assassin’s Creed Shadows as the project’s official title. This news also noted that a cinematic world premiere trailer will arrive on Wednesday, May 15 at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET. Ubisoft will unleash the trailer on its official YouTube page.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows release window

Assassin’s Creed Codename Red previously received a massive release window of anywhere between April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. This came courtesy of Ubisoft’s February 2024 financial report, which listed the game as a big player in the company’s 2025 fiscal year.

Interestingly, more information supports a potential 2024 launch window. Fans noticed that some YouTube links for the May 15 trailer reveal featured November 15, 2024 as the game’s release date. Ubisoft has since removed this information, but not before screenshots were snapped and shared.

Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt and we’ll update this section as soon as the developers announce further details.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows platforms

Codename Red was revealed at the Assassin’s Creed celebration event.

The backend of the game’s Ubisoft Store page features listing data (via journalist Andrew Marmo) suggesting Shadows will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.

While the data also references a PS4 SKU, a comment from insider Shinobi602 indicates the title will not be cross-gen. Concrete information could surface alongside the upcoming debut trailer.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows setting

This next Assassin’s Creed title will be set in Feudal Japan and is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the team behind the critically acclaimed Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Fans of the stealth-based series have wanted a title set in Japan since the original title was released back in 2007, so its next “premium” open-world RPG title will likely prove incredibly popular.

While characters have yet to be officially confirmed, leaked artwork reveals that the playable character is a female shinobi. There have also been rumors that the game will feature two protagonists with the other being a Samurai.

Codename Red trailer

A brief 30-second trailer for Codename Red is all that is currently available and was taken from a brief snippet of the Ubisoft event where the game was announced. It’s during this clip where we get to see the player loading into the animus, before being taken to feudal Japan.

A shinobi can be seen leaping onto a traditional Japanese castle roof, before disappearing in a shroud of black smoke. Ubisoft has yet to reveal gameplay, but we’ll likely see some gameplay as the release draws nearer.
